Deborah N. Meyer

Deborah N. Meyer
Ms. Meyer practices in the areas of health law, business litigation, occupational licensure and employment law. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing with highest honors from Valdosta State University and her Juris Doctor cum laude from Campbell University where she received the Women in Law Award. She was also a member of the school’s National Trial Team.

Ms. Meyer participates as a faculty member for the Campbell University School of Law Professionalism Course in cooperation with the North Carolina Chief Justice’s Commission on Professionalism. She is a guest lecturer on legal issues in nursing each semester at the Watts School of Nursing in Durham, North Carolina. She has also been a speaker at continuing education seminars for various organizations, including the University of North Carolina School of Nursing and the North Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants. She recently published a chapter on how to structure a medical practice to avoid malpractice litigation in Medical Malpractice: How to Prevent and Survive a Suit (Data Trace Publishing Company).

Ms. Meyer practiced nursing for 19 years prior to entering the legal profession. In 1985, she was inducted as a member of the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing. She was listed in Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges and is a member of Omicron Delta Kappa National Honor Society and Phi Kappa Phi National Honor Society. She is a member of the Durham and Cary Chambers of Commerce. She currently serves on the Board of Trustees for the United Methodist Retirement Homes and is Chairperson of the UMRH Ethics Committee. She is also a member of the Board of Directors for the Durham Symphony Orchestra.

Sherri Blackwood

Sherri Blackwood

Sherri Blackwood started working with Deborah N. Meyer in 1996. She joined our firm in 2003.

Sherri is responsible for maintaining case files and document management; performs extensive discovery and trial preparation. She coordinates, creates, organizes and maintains databases, client and case materials and drafts correspondence, documents, and court and administrative filings.

Sherri also provides collection services for physicians, and other health care professionals with their overdue accounts. She maintains all the accounts, which clients cannot collect, and provides periodic reports to clients regarding the status of such accounts. If necessary, she assists the collections attorney in utilizing the legal remedies available through the North Carolina Courts to collect on delinquent accounts.
